Kwong Chiew Ee

Kwong Chiew Ee is a Partner at Rahmat Lim & Partners, specializing in Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law and dispute resolution. She has in‑depth experience in corporate and commercial disputes, including breach of directors' duties, post‑M&A arbitrations, shareholder disputes, asset tracing arising from cyber fraud, and defending financial institutions against claims of financial mis‑selling and negligence.

Chiew Ee has acted for creditors, debtors, financial institutions, and insolvency officeholders in both contentious and non‑contentious restructuring and insolvency matters. She has advised foreign clients on the Malaysian implications of US Chapter 11 and UK Part 26A restructuring plans, and coordinated recognition of Malaysian restructuring proceedings in foreign jurisdictions. Notable matters include acting for Vantris Energy Berhad (formerly Sapura Energy Berhad) in one of Malaysia's largest debt restructurings through a scheme of arrangement; acting as lead counsel for the ad hoc group of opposing unsecured creditors in the KNM Group Berhad schemes of arrangement; acting as Malaysian counsel to Vyaire Medical in its US Chapter 11 and distressed M&A sale of its Malaysian subsidiary; and advising an aircraft engine lessor on its MYR4.31 billion claims in the AirAsia X Berhad scheme of arrangement. She also assisted with expert evidence on Malaysian law for Malaysia Aviation Group's cross‑border scheme of arrangement accepted by the English High Court in Re MAB Leasing.

Chiew Ee holds an LL.B. (Hons) from the University of London, an LL.M. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an LL.M. in International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University of London, and an Executive Certificate in Islamic Finance from INCEIF. She was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2012. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Panel Adjudicator at the Asian International Arbitration Centre.

Chiew Ee is the first and only Malaysian‑qualified practitioner admitted as an INSOL Fellow and serves on the INSOL International Asian Advisory Council. She is recognised as a Recommended Lawyer in Dispute Resolution by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, winner of the Lexology Client's Choice Award for Restructuring & Insolvency in Malaysia (2025), and was named in Asian Legal Business' Asia 40 Under 40 (2022). She is co‑author of "Commercial Conflict of Laws in Malaysia" and co‑editor of Halsbury's Laws of Malaysia – Conflict of Laws.
