Chong Yee Leong is a Partner and the Co-Head of the International Arbitration Practice and Head of the Restructuring & Insolvency Practice at Rahmat Lim & Partners, with more than 33 years of experience in the field. He is concurrently a partner in Allen & Gledhill, the firm's associate firm in Singapore.
He focuses on international arbitration in the areas of construction, energy, oil and gas, power and infrastructure projects, and investment and commercial disputes across Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Asia and Africa. Notable matters include representing a Malaysian steel manufacturer against an Italian supplier in two ICC arbitrations seated in Singapore with claims in excess of RM1 billion; representing a Japanese contractor against a Korean contractor in an SIAC arbitration with claims in excess of US$200 million arising out of an underground train project in Ho Chi Minh City; and representing a Singapore rig maker in four SIAC arbitrations with aggregate claims of US$30 million. He also has extensive experience in restructuring and insolvency, having been involved in the high-profile restructurings of Hyflux, Pacific International Lines and the Hin Leong Group.
Yee Leong holds an LL.B. (Hons) from the National University of Singapore. He is admitted to the Singapore Bar (1990), the Malaysian Bar (1997), and is a non-practicing Solicitor of England and Wales (2000). He is a Chartered Arbitrator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, and serves as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). He is also on the panel of arbitrators for SIAC, the Asian International Arbitration Centre, the CIArb Presidential Panel, and other institutions.
He is recognised as a leading international dispute resolution practitioner in the Asia-Pacific region by Chambers Global, Chambers Asia-Pacific, The Legal 500, Who's Who Legal and Asian Legal Business, and was one of the nominees for the inaugural Global Arbitration Review "Advocate of the Year" award.
