Raghuram Supramanium

Raghuram Supramanium is a Partner in the Intellectual Property Practice at Shearn Delamore & Co., specialising in intellectual property law, data protection and privacy law, and technology, media and telecommunications law. He advises and represents clients in all areas of contentious and non‑contentious IP work, including IP asset management, brand protection, anti‑piracy and anti‑counterfeiting, domain name disputes, and cyber laws.

Raghuram has appeared as lead counsel or co‑counsel in IP and regulatory compliance cases at all levels of the Malaysian courts, including the Federal Court. Notable matters include Mah Sing Plastics Sdn Bhd, a landmark patent invalidation and infringement case; OATLY, the first case decided by the IP Court under the new Trademarks Act 2019; and General Video v Vivo, a patent infringement action forming part of a global series. He has spearheaded large‑scale enforcement actions, including the largest seizure of counterfeit cigarettes in Malaysia in 2020 worth over RM20 million, and works closely with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Royal Malaysian Customs, and the Royal Malaysian Police.

Raghuram's practice also extends to regulatory compliance, competition and anti‑trust, e‑commerce, consumer protection, anti‑corruption, and anti‑money laundering matters. He has contributed to the amendments to copyright and industrial design laws as part of MyIPO's Copyright‑Industrial Design Task Force, and is active in the Bar Council's IP Committee and IP Mediation Task Force.

He has authored or co‑authored publications including the Manual for the Handling of the Applications for Patents, Trademarks and Designs by Kluwer IP Law and the Malaysian chapter of World Intellectual Property Rights and Remedies by Thomson Reuters. He has been recognised as a Rising Star by The Legal 500 Asia‑Pacific (2022, 2023) and Managing IP Stars (2021–2023).
