Azman bin Othman Luk

Azman bin Othman Luk is the Managing Partner of Rahmat Lim & Partners and Head of the Regulatory & Compliance Department, focusing on banking and finance transactions including syndicated and structured financing, securities regulation and debt capital markets, LBO transactions, strategic investments, and distressed and insolvent restructurings. He also advises on financial and capital markets regulation.

Notable transactions include advising a syndicate of banks on the first-of-its-kind syndicated multi-currency, Shariah-compliant, sustainability-linked facilities of up to US$800 million for Axiata Group Berhad; advising CIMB Bank on the HK$3.41 billion financing of the privatisation of Nirvana Asia; and advising a syndicate of banks on a RM1.9 billion Murabahah financing for Weststar Aviation Services. In distressed restructuring, he acted for Vantris Energy Berhad (formerly Sapura Energy Berhad) in relation to schemes of arrangement involving over MYR12 billion of debt; acted for senior financiers in the MYR1.84 billion debt restructuring of the Nam Cheong group of companies; and acted for Venator Asia Sdn. Bhd. in scheme of arrangement proceedings involving debt in excess of MYR2 billion.

Azman holds an LL.M. in corporate and commercial law from King's College London, University of London and a B.A. (Hons) from Durham University. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales (Lincoln's Inn, 1990) and admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 1993. He is concurrently a partner in Allen & Gledhill LLP, the firm's associate firm in Singapore.

He is recognised as an Eminent Practitioner in Banking & Finance by Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific, as a Leading Individual by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, and as a Highly Regarded lawyer in Banking and Capital Markets by IFLR1000. He has been inducted into The Legal 500 Asia Pacific Hall of Fame for Banking and Finance, with clients describing him as "very knowledgeable", "quick-witted, sharp, and yet very humble", and "one of the leading finance practitioners in Malaysia".
