Tan Sri Datuk Zainun Ali

Tan Sri Datuk Zainun Ali is a Consultant at Zain & Co., specializing in Dispute Resolution. She brings unparalleled judicial experience to the firm, having retired as a Federal Court Judge in 2018 after a distinguished four‑decade career in the Malaysian judiciary.

She was first appointed as a Magistrate in 1979, became President of the Johor Bahru Sessions Court in 1981, and later served as Chief Registrar of the Federal Court and Judicial Commissioner of the High Court of Malaya. She was elevated to the High Court bench in 1998, to the Court of Appeal in 2006, and finally to the Federal Court in 2012. She also served as Senior Federal Counsel for the Prime Minister's Department, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Her landmark constitutional decisions have been widely lauded as "brilliant," "courageous," and among the greatest constitutional judgments of recent decades. She currently serves as a director of Permodalan Nasional Berhad and Deputy Chairman of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission.

She holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Malaya (1976) and an LL.M from the University of Cambridge (1985). She was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1984 and is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

She is a member of the Advisory Board of the United Nations Global Judicial Integrity Network, a member of the Administrative Tribunal of the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah, a member of the International Association of Women Judges, and a registered arbitrator of the Asian International Arbitration Centre.
