Chia Chee Hoong

Chia Chee Hoong is a Partner and Co-Head of the Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions Department at Rahmat Lim & Partners, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, securities regulation, corporate and debt restructurings, joint ventures, and inward and outward investments.

He has worked on numerous notable M&A transactions in Malaysia, particularly in the banking and financial services sector, including the restructuring of a leading general insurance company, the de-merger of a leading Islamic bank, and consolidation exercises involving merchant banking, stockbroking and investment banks. He represents a wide spectrum of clients, including sovereign wealth funds, government investment corporations, pension funds, government-linked corporations, private equity firms and institutional investors. Notable matters include advising the Charoen Pokphand Group on its acquisition of Tesco's businesses in Thailand and Malaysia, which won M&A Deal of the Year at the Asia Legal Awards; advising Unicharm Corporation on its US$530 million acquisition of DSG (Cayman) Limited; and advising AXA Asia and Affin Bank Berhad on the disposal of their stakes in AXA Affin General Insurance Berhad and AXA Affin Life Insurance Berhad to Generali Asia NV, which won M&A Deal of the Year at the ALB Malaysia Law Awards 2022.

Chee Hoong holds an LL.B. (Hons) from the University of London and an LL.M. in Corporate & Securities Law from University College London, where he was awarded a British Chevening Scholarship by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom. He was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2001.

He is recognised as a leading Corporate/M&A lawyer by Chambers Global/Asia-Pacific, described as "very sensible and responsive", "experienced, very commercial and hardworking", and providing "well-rounded advice that is business-driven".
