Zainal Azlan Abdul Kadir

Zainal Azlan Abdul Kadir is the Managing Partner of Zain & Co., practicing in the Real Estate Law and Banking practice. He advises on the structuring and documentation of Islamic and conventional financing, including offshore financing and foreign currency loans, bilateral and syndicated loan facilities, and aircraft leasing and financing. He also advises clients on strata title matters and the sale and purchase of real properties in Malaysia.

Zainal has been involved in a number of significant transactions, including advising a subsidiary of an international conglomerate on securing payment for the development of an artificial island in Melaka; providing legal advice on the proposed redevelopment of the 124.37‑hectare Kampong Bahru settlement in Kuala Lumpur; advising a German banking group on the proposed transfer of a portfolio of assets and liabilities worth €210 billion to a German government‑owned public agency; advising Malaysia Airline System (MAS) on the Widespread Asset Unbundling restructuring of the national airline; advising a regional Islamic bank on a RM1 billion Commodity Murabahah Short Term Revolving Credit‑i facility; and advising a Singapore‑based investment company on a S$430 million facility agreement.

Zainal holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of London (School of Oriental and African Studies, 1989) and an LL.M from King's College, University of London (1992). He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1990, admitted as a Barrister‑at‑Law of the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, and called to the Malaysian Bar in 1991. He is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

He was cited as a "Highly Regarded" Leading Lawyer by IFLR1000 for six consecutive years (2017–2023) and is recommended in The Legal 500 Asia‑Pacific in Banking and Finance, Projects and Energy, and Real Estate and Construction. He serves as President of the Malaysian Strata Management Tribunal (2018–present) and was a member of the Malaysian Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board (2017–2021).
