Nicholas Tan Choi Chuan

Nicholas Tan Choi Chuan is a Partner and Deputy Head of the Corporate/M&A practice at Shearn Delamore & Co., specialising in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and cross-border investments. He has been called to the Malaysian Bar and is also a Barrister-at-Law of Lincoln's Inn, England and Wales.

Nicholas has advised on some of Malaysia's most significant transactions, including acting for China Railway Engineering Corporation (M) Sdn. Bhd. in the RM7.41 billion acquisition of a 60% stake in Bandar Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.; acting as Malaysian counsel for Saudi Aramco (instructed by White & Case) on its US$7 billion investment and joint venture with Petronas in the RAPID project in Pengerang; acting as Malaysian counsel for Laureate Education, Inc. (instructed by DLA Piper) on the sale of the INTI Education group for approximately USD 140 million; and advising Scientex Berhad on its privatisation of Daibochi Berhad and its acquisition of a 42% stake for approximately RM222.5 million. He also advises on equity capital markets work, including IPOs and significant corporate exercises.

Nicholas holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Northumbria, a Master of Commercial Law from the University of Malaya, and an MBA from the University of Nottingham. He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM), co-chair of the ELA Global Mergers and Acquisition Group, and has been recognised as a leading lawyer for Corporate/M&A by Chambers and Partners Asia Pacific and IFLR1000.
