Salwah Abdul Shukor

Salwah Abdul Shukor is a Senior Partner at Zain & Co. and Head of the Corporate practice, specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions. She advises on mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, private debt issuance, and intellectual property advisory work, including film and media matters, as well as Shariah family matters including estate planning.

Salwah has been involved in numerous significant transactions, including advising Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad on its acquisition by Synergy Drive to form Sime Darby Berhad, one of the world's largest listed oil palm plantation companies; advising Petroliam Nasional Berhad on its US$600 million acquisition of The Dow Chemical Company's interest in the Optimal Group; acting for Petron Corporation in its acquisition of Exxon Malaysia's downstream operations; advising on notable programme issuances including the 25‑year RM5 billion Infrastructure Notes Programme for Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad and the RM2.2 billion Islamic Medium Term Notes Programme for Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad; advising SK Telecom Co Ltd on an investment agreement with Green Packet Berhad and Telekom Malaysia Berhad; representing Microsoft Malaysia in a copyright infringement case; and heading the team that drafted the Intellectual Property Manual for Multimedia Development Corporation Berhad. She also advises on the acquisition of franchise rights for popular fast food chains and investments into online fashion retailers, and assists in equity raising and private equity fund formation for film and media businesses.

Salwah holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Bristol (1990), where she was a recipient of the Best Overseas Student award and an Undergraduate Scholarship, and a Diploma in Shariah Law and Practice from the International Islamic University Malaysia (1996). She was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1994 and is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. She is a registered Patent, Trade Mark and Design attorney in Malaysia.
